On this page you will find an overview of the body system as implemented on the Carnegie Mellon Formula SAE racecar.

I lead the team in the design of the body of the racecar. The body is designed and fabricated as a carbon fiber shell modeled first in SolidWorks using surface modeling techniques. The mold for the body is cut from machine grade foam with a multi-axis CNC mill. The mold is then used to layup multiple plies of carbon fiber fabric, and is vacuum bagged to ensure a high quality finish. The surface of the body is then hand finished to create a perfectly smooth surface for painting. The carbon fiber panelling is then sent out for paint.
